of a leading service and consulting company for occupational pension plans

Location: Hamburg

Our client is a well-established leading multi service provider of occupational pension plans. He manages 8 pension plans, including one of the largest company pension funds in Germany. The portfolio management team is responsible for a total of € 12 billion assets under management. The investment strategies of the managed pension plans aim to achieve an attractive performance over the long term and to deliver outstanding results - i.e., mitigation of losses in times of very volatile capital markets. This will be achieved through highly diversified portfolios, which invest across different asset classes in compliance with the regulatory requirements in Germany. Besides traditional real estate, fixed income and equity strategies, which operate globally, alternative investments - in particular private debt and private equity funds - and structured credit mandates are also an integral part of the portfolios.

Main tasks:

  1. Stay educated on private capital markets and conduct research towards current market developments and long-term trends to derive actional investment ideas
  2. Take responsibility and be a key contributor in the due diligence process for new investments in funds and in bespoke managed account solutions (i.e. manager selection, commercial due diligence, involvement in legal and tax due diligence activities and monitoring)
  3. Monitoring of the existing private equity and private debt portfolio
  4. Drive and implement the evolution of the analytical tool- and skillset to con-tinuously enhance the investment analysis, strategic allocations and portfolio compositions
  5. Participation in various investment related projects (e.g. digitalization)
  6. Work closely together with other team members

Candidate skills:

  1. University degree in finance, economics, business administration, mathematics, or engineering with a good degree or a banking education with capital market-specific qualification (e.g. CFA or CAIA)
  2. Curiosity and passion for alternative assets – preferably with first relevant industry experience in private equity/debt with banks, asset managers, pension funds, insurance, consulting or auditing companies
  3. Knowledge of the corporate finance toolkit (valuation, LBO, M&A and accounting) with corresponding ability to implement know how in cash flow analysis and investment models
  4. Independent, analytical and structured way of working
  5. Communicative and a team player with the ability to transport your ideas eloquently and concisely
  6. Proficient in MS-Office, Bloomberg, knowledge of programming languages (VBA, R, SQL) advantageous
  7. Fluent in German and English
