of a leading service and consulting company for occupational pension plans

Location: Hamburg

Our client is a well-established leading multi service provider of occupational pension plans. He manages 8 pension plans, including one of the largest company pension funds in Germany. The portfolio management team is responsible for a total of € 12 billion assets under management. The investment strategies of the managed pension plans aim to achieve an attractive performance over the long term and to deliver outstanding results - i.e., mitigation of losses in times of very volatile capital markets. This will be achieved through highly diversified portfolios, which invest across different asset classes in compliance with the regulatory requirements in Germany. Besides traditional real estate, fixed income and equity strategies, which operate globally, alternative investments - in particular private debt and private equity funds - and structured credit mandates are also an integral part of the portfolios.

Main tasks:

  1. Formal coverage of key private capital markets (research, strategy)
  2. Conduct research and convert outcomes into actionable investment ideas for fund investments and bespoke managed account solutions
  3. Full ownership of the investment process including sourcing and due diligence (commercial due diligence and coordination of legal and tax work streams)
  4. Involvement in the structuring of investments and negotiation of commercial conditions
  5. Management and monitoring of the existing private equity and private debt portfolios including representation an advisory boards
  6. Drive the further evolution of analytical capabilities and tools to optimize the strategic allocations and portfolio compositions
  7. Presenting the asset class to internal and external stakeholders (incl. on conferences to external managers and service providers)
  8. Contribution to cross-asset strategy development
  9. Participation in various investment related projects (e.g. digitalization)

Candidate skills:

  1. University degree in finance, economics, business administration, mathematics, or engineering with a good degree or a banking education with capital market-specific qualification (e.g. CFA or CAIA)
  2. Several years of relevant industry experience with an established track record of investments and deep network in the private equity / debt universe with asset managers, intermediaries, pension funds or insurance companies
  3. Comprehensive understanding of capital markets in the areas of private equity and private debt as well as in their structuring for institutional investors
  4. Communicative and a team player with the ability to present investment ideas eloquently and concisely
  5. Proficient in MS-Office, Bloomberg, knowledge of programming languages (VBA, R, SQL) advantageous
  6. Fluent in German and English
